It is good to have friends! and to have their support for your work!

When writing my chapter, "The 5 As to Authenticty" for the anthology, "The Missing Piece: A Transformational Journey, I had no idea of who I might ask to write recommendations. When I received word that my colleagues of Unite Women.org had placed the book on their recommendation list, I was very happy. It was totally unexpected and veru much appreciated!

"The amazing souls within this book have come together to share their amazing stories with the world. They are all living proof that there is life after traumatic events and that you can find those missing pieces you need to move forward again in life."                                      --Jan, Unite Women Florida

Recognition is not the outcome that motivates me to write, it is my hope that when I write about my experiences, it may be lessen the isolation one feels when going through a traumatic situation! When I realize I am NOT alone, somehow it makes it easier to understand and move forward.

Having friends who offer assistance, such as this recommendation, is a beautiful thing! it gives me motivation to keep moving forward, too!  We all need a little support, now and then, including #1 International Best Selling Authors!!

Debra SeS, "Be THAT Guy!!"

A new public health approach to fighting violence in all its forms against women is being promoted by NASCAR to its fans via its Jumbotron with an animation delivering this message,

“#BeThatGuy. Stop violence against women in its tracks.”

This is awesome! It is every anti-violence against women advocates' dream, to have the sports industry working to prevent and eliminate this violence. Using animation, or cartoons, if you prefer, is a very engaging method to catch the eye, and the attention, of a captive audience, such as those who are watching car races!

and here is the video

http://youtu.be/unwz9169Sms

The video was a collaboration between Grazie Media, a Toronto-based business that programs public service announcements on Jumbotrons for U.S. sporting events and Breakthrough, a global leader, says in its own words, “use(s) the power of arts, media, pop culture, and community mobilization” to get men to discourage other men’s violence. Mallika Dutt, the group's founder, said that Breakthrough’s goal is global — “to make violence against women unacceptable.''

We also call this By-Stander Intervention.  This model began in the 1990s as a means to affect social and cultural norms - to create long-lasting and real change in attitudes about violence against women. The key is to have peer-to-peer accountability, or man-to-man, in this case. Men holding other men accountable is the primary goal of engaging sports culture in ending the war on women. The public health perspective is that violence against women is a behavioral epidemic that culture can have power to discourage and eliminate.

So I am thrilled to see this is happening, this is creating social and cultural change for the good of all!

Thank you to Grazie & Breakthrough for delivering this message, on behalf of all survivors/thrivers/overcomers/ of violence against women!

International Bestselling Author! The Missing Piece: A Transformational Journey on the amazon.com bestseller list!!

I cannot believe it - in one day!!

This is truly amazing to me... yesterday I was an international author, and today

"International Bestselling Author"

Remember when you were a child, you have a long list of career aspirations for  adulthood??

Being a writer was not even on my list! Let alone, achieving this level of recognition!! So, how did I get to this juncture in my life?

Reading has been a lifelong love for me. As a young child in the 1960s, I suffered many earaches and sore throats, prior to the discovery of the efficacy of penicillin. This impacted my ability to hear. Since reading lips was difficult, I chose to 'bury my nose' (my family constantly teased me with this phrase) a book at all times - this was my excuse for not hearing what people were saying to me. The advent of penicillin saved my hearing. With much scarring left on my eardrums and still being plagued by earaches, even as an adult,  minor deafness is one of my health concerns.

I guess I might credit my 6th grade teacher, Mr. Kennedy, who used a unique consequence for non-stop talkers like myself. I copied many pages of the classroom dictionary. The purpose was to deter my talking, but what happened is this:  I developed a love of words, their meaning and uses, their connection to language and culture, about prefixes& suffixes, nouns, verbs, adjectives & adverbs and more!

Writing began in earnest for me, as a tool of remembering who I was before the 17 year violent marriage. I learned about 'stream of consciousness' writing (Morning Pages) from "The Artist's Way" by Julia Cameron.  Then I discovered 'daily pages' from "Simple Abundance: A Daybook of Comfort and Joy" by Sarah Ban Breathnach.

In 1997, I faced a double medical trauma: fibroid tumors and lump in my breast, at the exact same time and ending in surgery.  This spurred an extremely emotional creative wave of poetry and short stories. In 1999, I returned to college which initiated a long period of academic writing (including my Bachelor's and Master's thesis) and work-related articles.

In 2008, I participated in an anthology, powered and driven by survivors of domestic violence. My chapter is named "Debra's Story" in "Why Doesn't She Just Leave? Real Women, Real Stories" (see cite below). I am very proud of this project. It completely captivated me and whet my appetite for more!

Fast forward: December 7, 2013. Book Launch Day. Up to yesterday, within our secret FaceBook group, we had been discussing the possibility of our anthology being a best seller on Amazon. Of course, I thought that sounded really wonderful...not sure I had the same level of faith as some of my collaborators, however. Listening to my intuition, I gave way to the will of the group and rode their wave of belief and enthusiasm...

December 8, 2013: Ta DAAAAA!  We did it!! And I am forever indebted and forever grateful for our Publisher/Leaders Team, for their unwavering skill and dedication, and to my collaborative Author/Sisters for opening their hearts and sharing their vulnerabilities!

Check out my book The Missing Piece: A Transformational Journey – It Could Change your Life!

Dear Family, Friends, Colleagues, and Collaborators;

I recently went through an incredible experience that I need to share with everyone I know! I think we can agree that everyone goes through hard times in life – I have done so myself. As the saying goes, at one time I was so down, there was no place to go but up! I was discussing this phenomenon with my friend and colleague, Kate Gardner, and discovered we’d had very similar experiences. Wondering whether there were other women out there who had gone through hardships – and prevailed – gave rise to The Missing Piece.

I joined with a group of women to collaborate on writing about building your life back up from its very foundations, recapturing happiness and productivity. It has been inspiring to see how many ways there are to rebuild! And as a result of this experience, now I can state that I am an Internationally Published Author in the anthology The Missing Piece! Take a look!

Many people go through crisis periods when it seems like the future is almost hopeless. Bleakness and despair can set in and even take over your way of thinking. The Missing Piece is a compilation of writings that can show you that it doesn’t have to be like this – you can use your situation to rebuild and reinforce your existence from the bottom up!

This exceptional book was written by people Kate gathered together to produce a priceless support tool. In her words, “All the amazing souls in this book are living proof that it is possible to thrive in life after such trying times.” Kate united 27 women from all around the world to create The Missing Piece, a source of hope and inspiration to people who have been hit hard by life.

If you are trying to bounce back from adversity, you must get this book. You have the power within yourself to build a life of stability and meaning. Take the first steps with The Missing Piece! It’s available right now on Amazon. You gotta get it!
